MESSAGEMessage from the Chairman
To our guests, local communities, shareholders, and all our partners, we thank you for your continued patronage and business.
Since our establishment in 1970 in our regional base in the Nagoya area, we have served Soba, Udon, Nagoya Meshi as our main dishes.
Over the years, our group has been steadily expanding, especially with the addition of Ajino Mingei Foodservice which has operated mainly in the Kanto area in January 2014, Hamacho, a Japanese restaurant operating in the Kanagawa area, in March 2016, and Bubuka, a ramen restaurant, in April 2018. In particular, the joining of Ajino Mingei resulted in the birth of a family restaurant chain of Japanese noodles with a strong foundation in the two largest economic regions of Japan that drive the Japanese economy.
July 2017 marked our 20th anniversary since our listing on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and 2020 will mark our 50th anniversary since our establishment. From October 1, 2018, we have transferred to a holding company structure, Sagami Holdings. By separating our management strategic functions from the operational execution functions, we are better able to improve the company in a speedy manner.
We have also actively continued to promote Soba overseas. With the success of the Japan Pavilion at the Milan Expo in 2015 and the one-year test marketing restaurant in Milan which ended its contract term with huge success, we are looking at potential restaurant openings in Europe in addition to the ASEAN region which we have positioned as an area for focused restaurant openings. Therefore, we are moving forward by establishing joint ventures with local partners in Europe.
Both domestically and overseas, there is a heavy value placed on “health”. Out main food and our competitive strength, Soba, is known for its very high nutritional value. We have been offering “healthy” dishes, such as those with reduced salt or Dattan Soba dishes, and will be actively pursuing our research in healthy dishes to respond to the need for our health-oriented guests.
We will continue to work towards our vision of being the “No.1 Noodle Restaurant Company” and we thank you and request for your continued support and encouragement.
President and CEO, Hisashi Onishi
